Proactive Problem-Solving in Sea Freight: How We Ensured a Smooth Shipment from Shanghai to Barcelona

Sea Freight

When it comes to transporting oversized and heavy machinery by sea, precision and preparation are everything. Even the smallest miscalculation can lead to serious complications at the port — particularly when using a flat rack (FR) container, where lifting points play a crucial role in safe loading and unloading.

Recently, our company encountered such a challenge during a shipment from Shanghai to Barcelona. The cargo in question was a large industrial bender machine, securely packed in an iron crate. The original cargo specifications were 11,800 mm in length, 3,000 mm in width, 2,100 mm in height, and weighed 28,000 kg. Based on these dimensions, our operations team carefully planned and arranged a 1×40FR OWOH (own weight, own handling) container for transport.

Our engineers and logistics specialists conducted precise measurements and calculations to identify the exact section of the packaging that was obstructing the lifting points. After discussing the situation with the manufacturer and obtaining their approval, we implemented a targeted modification — cutting 5 cm from the affected end of the crate.

This small but precisely executed adjustment ensured that:

The cargo integrity and packing safety remained fully intact.

The lifting points on the flat rack were completely cleared.

The shipment could proceed on schedule without additional rework or port delays.

Ultimately, the cargo was safely loaded onto the vessel and successfully departed Shanghai for Barcelona as planned.

This case highlights our company’s core philosophy: to take active ownership in solving logistics challenges, rather than shifting the burden to our clients. In international sea freight — especially for out-of-gauge (OOG) or project cargo — such unforeseen situations are not uncommon. What distinguishes a professional logistics provider is not the absence of problems, but the speed, precision, and professionalism with which those problems are resolved.

At our company, we combine technical expertise, on-site experience, and decisive teamwork to ensure every shipment moves forward smoothly. From cargo measurement and packaging optimization to vessel coordination and port handling, every step is managed with care and precision.

This Shanghai–Barcelona project serves as a testament to our problem-solving mindset and commitment to customer success. When challenges arise — whether it’s a size deviation, a lifting obstruction, or a deadline constraint — we respond with solutions that are both practical and effective.

In a global logistics environment where timing, safety, and cost control are essential, we continue to uphold our mission:
To deliver reliable, professional, and efficient sea freight services — with zero excuses and 100% accountability.
