Our company specializes in the ocean transportation of oversized and heavy equipment, while also providing comprehensive inland logistics support to ensure seamless end-to-end delivery solutions. This project highlights our capability to manage complex domestic transportation under challenging conditions, as intermodal shipping.
In this case, we were entrusted with the inland transportation of two steel mooring pipes from Tianjin Port to Taicang Port. Each unit measured 32.4 meters in length, with a diameter of 1.524 meters and a wall thickness of 35 mm. Weight 38tons, Due to their extreme dimensions and weight, these cargoes fall under the category of oversized and heavy-lift transport, requiring meticulous planning and coordination.
Key Challenges and Solutions
1. Urgent Request During Chinese New Year Holiday
The client approached us during the Chinese New Year period, which is traditionally the most important holiday in China. Most logistics operations slow down or pause during this time. However, prioritizing the client’s urgent needs, our team remained fully responsive and immediately initiated the planning process. We quickly developed a feasible and efficient inland transportation solution without delay, demonstrating our commitment to customer service even during national holidays.
2. Complex Permit Requirements
Transporting cargo of this size requires special government approval in the form of a high-level oversized cargo transportation permit—the most stringent category. Our team proactively communicated with relevant authorities, prepared all necessary documentation, and closely followed up on the approval process. Through efficient coordination and professional handling, we ensured that the permit was secured in a timely manner, avoiding any disruption to the schedule.
3. Heightened Road Inspections During National Events
The project coincided with the period of China’s “Two Sessions,” a major political event during which road inspections and regulatory controls are significantly intensified, especially in northern regions. This added another layer of complexity to the transportation process. To mitigate risks, we maintained close communication with local authorities and adjusted routing and scheduling as needed to ensure full compliance with regulations.
4. Severe Weather Conditions
At the time of transportation, northern China was experiencing heavy snowfall, which posed serious challenges to road safety and transport efficiency. In response, we deployed highly experienced and professionally trained drivers who are skilled in handling oversized cargo under extreme weather conditions. Additionally, we implemented strict safety protocols to ensure that the cargo was transported securely throughout the journey.
5. Tight Vessel Schedule
The shipment was under significant time pressure, as the cargo needed to catch a specific vessel departing from Taicang Port. Any delay in inland transportation would have resulted in missing the vessel and incurring additional costs. Understanding the urgency, our team closely monitored every stage of the operation, optimized transit timing, and ensured seamless coordination between inland transport and port operations. Ultimately, the cargo arrived at Taicang Port on schedule and was successfully loaded onto the designated vessel.
Conclusion
This project demonstrates our company’s strong capabilities in handling complex logistics operations involving oversized cargo, particularly under challenging circumstances such as public holidays, strict regulatory environments, severe weather, and tight deadlines. By leveraging our expertise, responsiveness, and commitment to excellence, we successfully delivered a reliable and efficient solution to our client.
We remain dedicated to providing high-quality logistics services and look forward to supporting more challenging projects in the future.
